Signal Protocol in Voxenger Messaging

How Signal Protocol-based messaging fits into Voxenger, and why protocol design and application behavior are distinct.

An established cryptographic foundation

Signal publishes specifications for cryptographic protocols used in private messaging. Voxenger integrates Signal Protocol-based technology into its in-app messaging implementation. The current web implementation includes device key management, peer-device sessions, and message encryption and decryption using a Signal Protocol library. These functions form part of the messaging system, alongside delivery, account, and device services.

What Quantivant develops

Quantivant develops and operates Voxenger’s product experience and supporting services. Integrating a published protocol requires application work around accounts, devices, routing, and how conversations appear to users. We credit third-party technology separately: Quantivant’s ownership of Voxenger does not imply ownership of Signal’s protocol, trademarks, or libraries, or endorsement by Signal.

The scope matters

The presence of a cryptographic library is not a blanket security guarantee for every feature. In-app message content, account information, device storage, attachments, and carrier messages are distinct parts of a service. This article does not extend in-app message protections to SMS, email, fax, phone calls, or every item associated with an account.

A precise description

We describe Voxenger as a Quantivant-developed platform that integrates Signal Protocol-based in-app messaging. We do not claim to have invented the protocol, to implement every feature of the Signal application, or to provide every protection described in the latest Signal specifications. Platform-specific behavior and changes should be explained against the implementation actually released.
